AlmaLinux News for February '25

Quick Notes

AlmaLinux is seeking community assistance with two important initiatives:

  • CVE-2025-26466 Testing: The team has prepared patches addressing this vulnerability and welcomes users to test the updates before wider deployment.

  • ELevate Upgrade Path: A new upgrade route now enables transitions from CentOS Stream 9 to CentOS Stream 10 as part of the ELevate NG project.

Ways to Contribute

Website Translation: The AlmaLinux site has achieved over 80% translation in five languages. Contributors can join via Weblate to expand language support further.

Forum Support: Community members can assist fellow administrators and developers by providing answers and feedback through the forums (lnx.rocks/forumhelp).

OpenSSH Vulnerability Response: Qualys disclosed two critical OpenSSH vulnerabilities. While AlmaLinux 8 and 9 are affected by CVE-2025-26465, neither is impacted by CVE-2025-26466. The team proactively patched the former vulnerability per community request.

ELevate Expansion: Following recent updates, users can now test the new CentOS Stream 9-to-10 upgrade capability.

Upcoming Events

AlmaLinux will have presence at major conferences including SCaLE (March 6-9), FOSSASIA (March 13-15), CloudFest (March 17-20), and numerous others through November. The organization covers travel and accommodations for volunteer booth staff and welcomes recommendations for events in underrepresented regions.
